The ethics of humor
I haven't been blogging much lately, but it's not because I haven't had blog-worthy things happen to me. Quite to the contrary, I've had some wild stuff happen that is side-splittingly funny, and I wanted to blog about it. The only problem was that a lot of it happened in connection with dealing with clients at the legal clinic, and I can't really divulge any information about clients or any persons seeking legal advice. Which is a shame, because we've had some real whackos lately. I had to deal with a fun one because he only spoke Spanish, and then the secretaries played a few phone messages for me and so I could hear another nut case. We were cracking up so hard, it wasn't very professional but that's how we keep our sanity some days.
If I was a really unethical legal representative, I'd totally post the audio of the phone message online for people to hear and mock.* But I'd like to actually be accepted to the bar at some point, so I will decline to do so.

* A similar, less unethical incident occurred recently when a student in Fairfax County, Virginia called the superintendent's home to complain about not getting a snow day. The superintendent's wife called him back with a scathing response, which he then posted on YouTube with some clumsy animation, garnering hundreds of thousands of hits.
